GnuPG file decrypting

GnuPG has an extensive howto concerning asymmetric encryption that contains a few lines about encrypting a file with a symmetric key but no mention at all about recovering the original content of this file.

The command is:
gpg --output [output filename] --symmetric [input filename]

What is the command to decrypt this (output filename) file?

Thank you for your help.

"gpg -decrypt filename" gives a message:
gpg: conflicting command

The proper command could probably be found by trial and error but I think that is a bad way of finding it.

I believe you are using only a single hyphen instead of two.

Should be this:
gpg --decrypt filename

Not this:
gpg -decrypt filename
(which produces the conflicting command error)
