general security

Many posts I have read say antivirus is not necessary with Linux. OK, I'll trust the gurus on that one, although a newspaper article I read a few months back said there are Linux eating viruses out there. What's the truth on this issue? Do I need antivirus? What is a good product if I need it? Dr Web is recommended by the Mandrake Mozilla installation.
The only real security concern I have is that I do some banking etc via the internet using Mandrake10. I have no protection now. Do I need protection and if so what form should it take?

there were a few linux viruses in the past, but the security holes they exploited were fixed... at the present time there are no known linux viruses...

if a (new) linux virus is released, YOU'LL KNOW - cuz it'll be all over the news...

anyways, if you are sharing files with windows machines, an antivirus on your linux box is a good idea, as it would suck to unknowingly send your friends/family/coworkers a windows virus that was harmless on your linux box but infects their windows system...

there's a free (as in freedom) virus scanner here:

I agree with the above. It's a good idea to have email scanning to prevent spreading a virus to those poor windoze users.
