i have a small linux based n/w up and running ..it consists of a linux box connected to a router and then a private n/w of 3 windows based machines.i have setup proxy service using squid .when i download s/w from ftp sites(while at the win machines) i get an error showing there is no permisson or the url is not found.could somone help me on that.the same thing can be accessed with ease from my linux box. I've heard that Internet Explorer doesn't use proxy for ftp.does that have to do anything with my problem?
I think the problem you run into is that squid is not a FTP proxy (by default) but only HTTP and HTTPS. You may need to go into your Internet Options, Lan Settings, Proxy and remove the address to Squid from the FTP field. See if that works.
