folder access folder
hello,
how can i give an access to another user to see files in my personal folder without changing permissions. Can anybody help me wiht this problem. I know i have to do something like this: cp /bin/ls $HOME/ls but i'm not sure how does it works. thanks for any help |
Permissions are what control access to files. Moving ls will not affect what a user can see.
|
so haw can a user view files in my folder wihout changing folder permissions.

If your system does not use ACLs (Access Control Lists), you cannot. Additionally, even with ACLs, I would consider those 'permissions'. Why do you not want to change folder permissions?
|
its an assignment that i have to do. I have to create a folder in my account only accessible to me change its group and then without changing permissions find a way to let other user to viwe files in it. The hint that he gave us is that it hase to start with cp /bin/ls $HOME/ls.

Pity about the assignment. Homework questions AREN'T allowed here,
please read the rules you agreed to again. Cheers, Tink |
Wow, this is convoluted. I'm unfortunately bound by the rules Tinkster mentioned, but apparently, there is a way that I would never heave thought of. Is it specific to not changing the permissions of the folder? My curiousities are piqued, sadly.

i dont want anybody to do my homework for me, i just need a hist in what direction i have to look.
