Cool firewall solution...

Hello,

I'm new to Linux, recently set up Mandrake 8.1. I'm looking for a firewall product to install on it. It comes with a personal firewall, but I need something a little more robust as it is going to be protecting our LAN. Are there any good, free products out there? If not, any thing you can recommend would be great. Thanks in advance!!

a firewall on linux is just iptables and a pretty front end to administer it. they all use the same filtering back end which is part fo the kernel. i use firestarter for my pretty front end, but if you need a real tough one you are confident with then you should learn iptables manually and build t from scratch like most serious users will.

Hi
And if you think your firewall is as, it should be
checked at for inst. grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

And remember Novell itself was allright (more or less)
for security as a product, but their own website was
open, due to a faulty configured firewall

Wink iptables sample

One good way to get into that firewall, is to go to:

http://www.citadec.com/FirewallGenerator.html

It asks u some basic questions and generates iptables firewall script based on your answers. Take a look and you might get a clue what is it all about.

re

you dont replace anything with it. Just copypaste it to new file and read it through and run..

in really simple words (i presume you are root..):
copy&paste to some file
chmod 700 filename
./filename

u need to have kernel support for iptables and also iptables installed. (dont forget to load modules..)
