exactly...
when you install a firewall you are trying to protect your server (and internal network) from external attacks, howver, it does not seem to want to do this....
the way i look at is like this:
you have your samba set up for saring files and printers.... you have your iptables set up for NAT so that your client computers can use the same internet connection--and not screw up your file and printer sharing resources.... and.... you install a firwall so that malicious hackers will not get into your network-- and not for screwing up your file and printer sharing configurations or for screwing up your NAT... this is the second time i have seen in linux that installing another feature screws up something else instead of simply adding to it....
then again.... windows had the same problems... again...i am sure there is an answer to everything but it is awfully frustrating when the samba book promises that samba will end system administrator nightmares and problems with network connections and file and printer sharing... I say a lot to be desired still although i am sure it is better than having an unsecure and unstable server (read-> microsoft)...
i would like to be able to hand script these things but for me (maybe my iq is very low and i just dont know it) reading these books is far too dry for my tastes... anyone know of a good resource that explains samba to us mere mortals? it would be nice because i sure have ot found any...
