Firewall Builder Basic Questions

I was reading an article on Firewall Builder and had two questions. First, does Firewall Builder require that it have it's own machine with nothing else on it, like Shorewall?

Second, will it let you block specific IP addresses and ranges of IP addresses?

Thanks for any information that you can provide.

Have you looked at http://www.fwbuilder.org/ ?
And by "Shorewall" do you mean "Smoothwall"? Because Shorewall is just an iptables configurator, while Smoothwall is its own distro.

It probably didn't occur when you were writing this that it was ambiguous. Did you mean:

or

The firewall on Linux is iptables; there are a variety of ways in which you can generate the ruleset (by hand, from a program/script, from a graphical front end, of which there are many) but there is, almost by definition, one ruleset and you can't be running a second ruleset except by running a second (virtual?) machine.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback.

You're right. I really meant Smoothwall.

The FW Builder website doesn't say if it want to be all by itself on it's own machine so I'll assume that it doesn't
