1. i have sucessfully installed tripwire 2.3.1-2-i686.tgz in my pc in root directory.
2. i want to editpolicy and configuration these files for my own convenience but as soon as i am opening these files in one of the editors and trying to edit them it is saying that writing to tar is not supported.

I believe you are trying to edit the file packed into tar file. With the filemanager you can "open" and "navigate" into a tar file without extracting the files.

To extract the files using a filemanager, try to click the icon with the right button and choose "extract here" or something like that.

To extract the files using the command line, you can use "tar -xzf tripwire-2.3.1-2-i686.tgz".
