When you go to bed at night do you leave your door unlocked? Unless you live out in the boonies, of course not. Why would you do this in your OS? A firewall allows you to have a barbed wire fence with daisy chained claymore mines around the perimeter of your house, in addition to the locked door...

You have no private data on your PC? Where do you keep your porn collection? There are people out there, not just bots and mass mailers. A firewall can allow script kiddies to scan your PC and it not even reply, as if it were not even turned on and they will turn their attention elsewhere. It's just good practice to have one, or more.

Just to echo...always lock your PC down.

Just installing Linux does not protect you from anything. A firewall is a must, AV...I dont use one other than checking for root kits.

An unsecured Linux box is exactly the same as an unsecured Windows box...an easy target.

A search would give you this information - this question comes up over and over.

And please type full english words and use punctuation - it makes your threads easier to read.
