DMZ, UFW settings for Application Server

I am hosting a web site from home and am setting up a web server to act as a proxy/intermediary for the protected application server. Should port 80/tcp be allowed or denied on the application server?

Thanks,
Peter.

How does the proxy/intermediary communicate with the application server and does this means rely on port 80 being open? If you are concerned about it being (unecessarilly) directly exposed to the world, use IPTables and restrict the port 80 access to just your proxy or your LAN.
