directory encryption tool

Does anyone know any utility tool that encrypts a directory inode rather than all files under it?

Sorry, but I think you need to do a little homework:

[1] What, exactly, is an inode? Google is your friend!
[2] How could encrypting it possibly be useful?
[3] How should the kernel interpret an encrypted inode?
[4] GOTO [2]

Thanks, I did do homework and I certainly know what an inode is. ( Definitely not enough
to learn everything from google, BTW. )

Anyway, back to you [2]-[4], if you are familiar with file systems, you should know why this kind of utility is useful ( you actually answered your [2] in [3] ). Appreciate your reply though.

Happy learning.

Are you looking for something like Truecrypt or cryptsetup-luks?

Close, but still no.

If I am not wrong ( don't know their details ), they both need to create another encrypted volume and then mount it.

My goal is to work directly with existing volumes/partitions/devices.

:very pissed off:

well.... I've writed some nice explanation about this program but when I clicked to Post I had to put my password and login, so I lost 15 lines and this realy pissed me off, so i have no mud to write everything again so I will be brief:
encfs -> I use, its good, fast, secure, encryptates folder and even after mounting encrypted folders only who mounted it have permission, even root cant see the content of a encrypted mounted folder if it was mounted by someone else.
regards

I had forgotten about EncFS. It's been a while since I've played with it, but it looked pretty decent at the time.
