Decrypt <user> folder in /home - Ubuntu 14.04
 

Hello, i am still a newbie in linux since i definitely quitted from Windows this spring, i use now two hard drives in my computer, one 3TB disk with Ubuntu 14.04 installed on it, and a 1TB disk with Linux Mint 17, which i bought recently.
The problem is that i cannot access to my user folder of Ubuntu 14.04 from Linux Mint, when i type "encrypted_mount_private" on the console it says:
<< Encrypted private directory is not set up properly.
I have also tried to access to it using Parted Magic but it's the same.
The question is, how can i have access to my user folder? since i know my username and password there should be no problem on having access to it, the only problem is that i don't know the way to decrpyt it.
Any kind of help would be so much appreciated.

First of all, thanks for the reply coralfang, but i have one problem with that solution, i didn't write down the passphrase and now i can't get access to my Ubuntu 14.04 HDD because my screen goes black after i login. Isn't there any other way to decrypt the user folder with just my username and password?

You can get the recovery key passphrase by running:
When you boot into ubuntu, try logging into the console (for example: ctrl+alt+F2), and login. If you can get the key/phrase from that command, the other instructions should work.

The ecryptfs encryption key is generated randomly i believe (i don't think it's related to your user login's password).
