canna security in Fedora Core 1

I am almost a newbie (though I do prefer command line to windows) and I am running Fedora Core 1. I am using a cable modem.

Recently, I noticed that when I shut down, it says:
"Cannot Kill Canna server as it is controlled by another machine."

A websearch reveals that Canna is susceptable to "Buffer overload attacks" that can give someone
/bin privleges. Is this what has happened to me?

Or is it nothing?

If my machine is under someone's control--would reinstalling fedora from the original discs fix everything. That seems simpler than some complex download. I have never installed software before.
Thanks
Telzey

I don't believe that bug affects Fedora Core. The bug was identified in Dec 2002 and FC1 wasn't released untill Nov 2003 and I don't see any vulnerabiltity reports in Fedora that affect canna. That being said, there are a whole lot of other major bugs that will affect an unpatched FC1 installation. So the first question is have you updated the system with current security patches?

Second question is when the system is running, what does 'netstat -pantu' show when run as root?

As usual, most important, easiest:
Check that you are running the latest version of this software (and for your distro, check that there is no known problems)
