How do you know that port is open? (please explain)

Try doing netstat -pantu and lsof -i

Take a look at the contents of /etc/inetd.conf for uncommented lines. Comment out any un-needed services and restart inetd.

--edit

Btw, what does: grep 794 /etc/services give you?
