Automatic C scripts

hello people. I was wondering about some scripts that excutes automatically in a certain condition, is like this maybe the computer i dentified that there is an intruder in your system some actions to get ridof the intruder is taking place even before asking for your action, Wot i ment is that the computer is like a smart thingy that does some some small small things withought asking for your action mostly coused by some scripts that a programmer wrote so that if some things happen this script will excute and does wot it is suppose to do. Now my question is that i've been a sys admin for a while but i never used such things so i wanted to ask you guys are there sord of scripts or is just some idea that pop in my head while i was dreaming?

regards
wakil

This concept is commonly applied in intrusion prevention systems.

At the bottom of the Wikipedia article I gave you there's a link section.

The most popular NIPS for GNU/Linux is Snort.

BTW, since it sounds like you are more interested in host-based solutions rather than network-based ones, I thought I'd point you toward Samhain. One of it's many features is that it can be configured to do active response to user-defined events.
