Automatic Account lockout

I'm running RedHat 7.3. Does anybody know how to enable automatic account lockout (so that if a password is incorrectly entered x number of times the account gets locked out.) I assume this can be done with PAM, but I am not sure how. Any suggestions?

I don't know of a way to do it directly but you could write a script that is run by cron every minute to check the output of "lastb" then you could determine how many bad logins there have been within a certain period for each user.

Spose you could have a look at the "pam_tally" module.

I was able to do account lock-outs on a per-machine basis with pam_tally; but I guess the bigger question is how can I lockout a users NIS account after x failed login attempts?
