Autologin as superuser in linux box

hi,
I putting my first question to this forum, please help me.
Can anybody suggest me ,how I can login into a linux box without entering username and password.
I want my machine to show desktop of root user as soon as it finishes the booting stuff.
I am sure there are many intelligent people in this forum who knows this answer.

Thank you,
Nitin

You do not want to do this.
Never ever use the root user as your regular account.
Never ever ever autoboot to the root account.

There are ways to autoboot to a regular user... for gnome for eg: use GDM login manager and click on "login user automatically". For KDE: K > Control Center > Login Manager > Convenience. (It's been a while, so it may be slightly different now.)

However: I don't think I can overstress this...
Never ever use the root user as your regular account.
Never ever ever autoboot to the root account.

root login

Please don't auto login as root. If this is really something you want other less secure OSes will happly let you. I'm not trying to be nasty but if users get the idea that logging in as root is O.K we are in for trouble. NEVER EVER on any system default to Root or Admin.

First, it *CAN* be done. However, I am in total agreement with the other posters, in saying that you should *NEVER* do it. You should never even log in a 'regular' user account, if that user is a group-0 member, since that's just as bad as auto-logging in as root.

I'm not sure what your requirements are, or why you want to do this, but please don't. If anyone wanders up to that machine, they're able to do ANYTHING, and there's NOTHING to stop them.
