another lastlog question

when i run lastlog, it tells me that root has logged in, which i did. but it says that i, as a user have never logged in, as such:
root pts/1 :0 todays date
eric ***never logged in****

but i have cause i am logged in at the time. is this weird?

any ideas?

it only seems to log logins directly on tty's, pts's and such. tty = console login pts = telnet (ssh?) login...
