It is the year that KDE 5 stuff will sneak into all of the major distros (except Red Hat, Debian and Slackware, which probably won't until 2020 or so), and that I will begin to oveeride defaults to use the Oxygen icons again.
It will be easier for one to sell off used laptops with no operating systems, with Android i386 (currently KitKat kernel 3.18) on them vs Windows (that fits, works, usually XP) or Gnu/Linux (which makes peoples eyes glaze over from misconstrued assumptions).
This plan of selling has already worked on 2 netbooks I personally sold.
I am currently making money this year using this method.
It is paying for my newer touchscreen netbooks, (for free).
Thank you Android for the name recognition. Plus, free un-pirated isos.
I think that we will see an advance in robotic technologies this year, possibly even a large leap towards the developments of AI. Drones will advance and become more autonomous. Both drones and robots will see increased use of Linux. I also think that weapons' technologies will develop further with devices such as laser cannons and rail guns becoming more common on the battlefield.
Nothing really new will happen... mobile platforms rising, online services became more popular...
maybe a new browser with integrated features will come - with the same function on every platform, mobile and and desktop, etc.
The world has to live with the so called "Patriot Act" from the united-States since 2001.
Google agreed to censor WWW content according to National interests, namely China, since at least 2003
I am about to get a taste of it in Canada with Bill C-51 in 2015.
So... The WWW is not free anymore!
From 2015, and on, we will see more and more censorship applied to WWW content.
It has been happening in our lives since at least WWII!
I submit that censorship at any level, how minute it is, for any reason, in any interest, does amount to FULL CENSORSHIP!
No form of control shouold be tolerated on the WWW! None!
Governments, the intelligence comunity and law enforcement agencies across the globe should rather concentrate on what they are paid for: catching those committing illegal acts!
I fail to understand how all criminals will be stopped if one cuts their access to internet.
I have an inkjet printer and no it does not make a noise like pig being cut in half, so no it is not a dot matrix printer. It also doesn't generate huge quantities of perforated paper scraps.
It still uses a matrix of dots, therefore a dot matrix printer, even if it uses thermal expansion of ink through a jet rather than hammers behind a ribbon.

Google can only censor their index of content, not the content itself unless it's hosted on Google. There are alternate, non-screwed, search engines
you can use such as DuckDuckGo.
Someone will come to a conlusion that maybe we should create a new country, where only free software is allowed, and then mass migration to that country will follow, which will result in the governments running out of workforce and having to actually work/die off/join that new country, and ultimately that one country will spread to the whole world and we will all live in it.
I hope people will realize that allowing companies to implant chips in their workers is a really really bad idea. Free software and renewable energy sources gradually gaining market. Using computers in biotechnical solutions (better bionic limbs etc.).
Sheila Nirenberg will finish her study on making the blind see again.
And uhm... poeple will start shooting drones for fun, or capture them and spy on the people who launched them initially and post the pictures on facebook?
And someone will hack street lights to send "GNU/Linux" in Morse code.
Cell phones will become obsolete. But then people still use the (dead) FAX machine.
With the rise of the Android tablet one can now make phone/video calls from anywhere where there is WI-FI access.
So why get a cell phone?
Another developing trend, streaming content from companies such as Netflix and Amazon.
The cable companies may be reduced to simply providing your internet connection. No longer involved in delivering content.
The CD/DVD is dead, Like the vinyl record. Replaced by the USB drive.
