1. A large commercial organization will move to a linux based desktop.
2. With all the good used smart phones out there, someone will make a way to reload and make those devices useful for SOMETHING. i.e. They have a screen, they have a CPU, they have keyboard/Bluetooth keyboard, they have wireless NICs, BUT they are slow and dont have much ram and most have battery issues. We should be able to find an interesting use for these devices.
3. There will be a Cyber action that leads to kinetic action.
4. Someone will make a phone that is wearable as a watch. You may get a tablet/laptop to carry as a bigger display. You would probably want an ear bud for longer conversations, but the phone will be the watch wearable device (i.e. it is the CPU with proper wireless IO)

Prediction of 2016 and beyond

Microsoft will continue its embrace of Linux (witness Azure and the soon-to-be Edge browser for Ubuntu) in 2016. By 2019, Microsoft will announce the end (beginning the phase out of 10) to Microsoft Windows, and will issue (possibly in concert with Canonical) a Microsoft Linux distro, free to use, adapt and share (service and support extra).

More of the same
More of fixing things which aren't broke by corps who follow the idiotic philosophy of thou shall not stand idle
More commercialization of Linux based systems by power hungry money grabbing Co's

More control at the Internet sites
Google YouTube Facebook etc find new ways to screw ppl
More spying on ppl
Less hackers n crackers n cool ppl who don't harm anyone but find truth for rest of us
Less innovation in real sense
More of the same
And
If you think I am cynical I say you're asleep

No idea if it will happen, but the world should say NO to Windows 10 because of all the spying it does. Then Microsoft has to do something else. But since I am always wrong with predictions, don't count on it.

Voice Activated Linux?

Why can't Linux "listen" to vocal commands to do mundane computer tasks, already?

After 22 years in IT, I'm pretty tired of typing.

Microsoft will buy Ubuntu before the end of 2016. The drone technology will be more and more common. By the end of 2016, drone trafic air lanes will be established after a military and a farming drones accident, totaling both.

3D printing will become more advantageous and will be developed to finer resolution points.

Tumbler will be sold in 2016 and will collapse in 2017.

Someone will say again that the Linux desktop is dead, but nothing will really change, if not a slight increase of Linux OS downloads.

I'll figure out how to get rid of @#$%&#!! Jovie in Mint KDE.

I don't think so - Magnetostriction (cf. electrostriction) is a property of ferromagnetic materials that causes them to change their shape or dimensions during the process of magnetization.

Bring back core store!!!

Firefox will develop a web search engine, FMail, Firefox+, Foxouts, etc!

VLC will be replaced by other player!

More software will be replaced by for dummy programming alternatives that need to be upgraded every day to fix security issues!

A painful split in two of Linux, with Gnu-Linux on one side, and systemd-Linux on the other.
