The "View Latest Threads" link should do most of what you want. By default it shows the last 7 days, but you can customize that (although the granularity is full days at this time).

AQ looks pretty much like LQ to me. I'm OK w/that. Please don't make any major visual changes. If I can't find something quickly because it was moved, I'll just forget it, and MAYBE check back later. There's too much software to learn now. Unfortunately, I don't have unlimited time to learn and re-learn unlimited softwares, operating systems, forums, etc. Thanks.

The granularity seems not to be full days for me, If I have showing up posts from the last 24 hours I only can select 7 days, 14 days and a month. It is also very confusing to me that all posts that the are older than the ones "View New Posts" will show me are marked as read, which is obviously not the case.
If it is not possible or to much work to implement customization for the "View New Posts" time period it would still help (at last me) when that option will only mark posts as "not new to me" when I actually click on that link, not when I not click on that link for a given time period (and I think that behavior would make more sense in general).
Since I don't know anything about the forum software I don't know if an implementation of that is possible, if not please let me know.

Personally I dislike the version of vbulletin (4.x) used in the androidquestions site. I've see it on many sites elsewhere and it always has the same problems - it's slower and more sluggish than the 3.x releases and it's performance is horrible under certain browsers - especially when scrolling.

There is also the fact that vbulletin is proprietary software... there are free and open source alternatives out there.

Yes this is an annoying problem with a lot of forum software including vbulletin which is what this forum is running on.

PHPBB handles unread posts the best. But changing from one forum software to another can be problematic. Anyone thinking of setting up a new forum on the internet should install the best forum software; PHPBB, and it's open source, licensed under the GNU Public Licence.

You can manually edit the URL to get any arbitrary number of days. The way threads are marked as read now is that when your session ends, all threads older than that time are "read". It's possible we'll switch to a system where only threads you've viewed are marked as read (with a single click to "mark all as read), but 1) that's a major change so we'd need to solicit member feedback and 2) we'd have to see what the performance impact of the change would be to see if it's even feasible.

Thanks for the feedback. One thing I don't understand:

How can my session end when I am active on LQ? Does a session end, when I am only reading, but not posting? Is it possible for a member to tweak that time out timespan?

Your session ends after you have been inactive for 900 seconds. If you read a thread or are posting a thread for longer than that, your session will timeout.

www.linuxquestions.org looks good as it is. www.androidquestions.org has a bad colour scheme. If some pleasing colours can be introduced, then the change would be opted for. Otherwise let www.linuxquestions.org be as it is.

Rest of the features are fine in both.

Would it be possible to enable the use of the [warning] ... [/warning] bb-code in the new version, may be with an icon in the advanced text-editor, like an exclamation mark or something? That would make it easier to post warnings and the look of warnings more consistent on the forum in general. Warnings should be easy to recognize, when someone has to post code that may be dangerous (for example dd-commands for some tasks) if used without the proper knowledge.
I currently achieve that with making the font bold and red when I make warnings about such dangers, but other members use different approaches, so the look of warnings is rather inconsistent.

Thanks for the feedback. I've added this to both LQ and AQ.

Warning: Something potentially dangerous here.
