The LQ Wiki Now Supports OpenID
I'm happy to report that the LQ Wiki now offers you the ability to log in via OpenID. This is the beginning of our OpenID evaluation, as mentioned previously. We're interested in what you think about both OpenID in general and about adding it to the main LQ site, either as a consumer (which would let you login) and/or as a provider (that is, you would get your OpenID from us). If you notice any bugs in the implementation or have a question, feel free to post here or at the wiki.
OpenID is an open, decentralized, free framework for user-centric digital identity.
OpenID starts with the concept that anyone can identify themselves on the Internet the same way websites do-with a URI (also called a URL or web address). Since URIs are at the very core of Web architecture, they provide a solid foundation for user-centric identity.
Personally, I'd love to see LQ as both an OpenID consumer and producer. Open web-based single-sign-on is long overdue. I need to play with it some and see the URLs and so forth.
The concept is definitely an interesting one, and one I think we certainly should have had a long time ago. I have so many usernames and passwords it makes my head spin if I think about it.
If Open ID takes off, I would absolutely want to be able to have LQ as my provider. I would much rather have a trusted site like LQ handling my online identification than some Internet startup that is just trying to make a buck on an emerging technology.

OK, sounds like a great idea, it takes me around 5 minuits of searching through the password manager if I need to enter in an ID manually.
One question, my LQ ID doesnt show up on the wiki, is there a link in LQ to get an openID from my LQ ID?
Cheers,
Stan
I would also like to see LinuxQuestions.org as a OpenID consumer and producer. I think the time is fit right now for LQ to produce OpenIDs. Although some already use other producers, OpenID is still not too widely spread and I wouldn't mind converting my OpenID to LQ now.
I am also concerned about the possibility of someone getting into my paswords. If they are now in one location, how secure is that.
If you could give some explanation regarding this issue then I would consider using it.
