Slackware 11 was released just a short while ago but there's not much buzz on the net about it...Or that is to say I have not seen the usual amount of reviews for one of my favourite distros.
I wasn't happy either with slack 11, it failed to connect me to the internet, even after trying some of it's "built-in utilities". I gave up and installed Mandriva 2007 which installed the network successfully without even asking me a question.

That's the point. Mandriva is distro that work, but Slackware make you work. Slackware is distro for everyone and no one (Different people will have different opinions.).
Right. I've been searching for info and found a reference to a bug in Slackware (11 as far as I remember) bound to DSL/internet connecting capabilities. And I was surprised that by the end of 2006 it was still using the 2.4 kernel by default, and after I reinstalled with 2.6 kernel some things (like mouse support) weren't working properly so I had to switch back to 2.4 to let it work fine. However there are things that work better in Slackware, for instance the speed.
Everything have bugs, and i (personally) don't expect from something to be perfect. It would be nice if you put a link to that reference so i can see what is it about. Anyway, like i said, 100 different people 100 different opinions. I see advantage in using stable and checked software releases. Maybe they shouldn't stick with kernel 2.4 that long, but i support their idea. After all, they put 2.6 as optional so you had a choice. For instance i had a modem that was unable to work on 2.6 kernels. What would i do with Mandriva that comes with 2.6?
Right, everything has bugs, you can live with the ones from Slack - I couldn't. Mandriva has its own bugs which seem to me acceptable (but for instance my 90$ mouse is working finally! - in slack it didn't with none of the 2.4-2.6 kernels, either did my DSL connection, NO decent USB_FLASH support - I had to mount by hand, and still with bugs - BUT in Mandriva it all JUST WORKED. If you wish you can just google for more info). For someone mandriva makes life a lot easier, for someone else - Slack, I don't wanna argue.
Welcome to the forums. Did you really register to recommend your favorite distro in a half-year-old thread that is actually about reviews of another distro?
edit: My timezone's off so I'm not better eighter. I saw that he had just replied.
