Post PS3 hacking case: Sony gets downloaders' information

"Sony has been given permission to obtain details of people who downloaded files needed to hack the PlayStation 3."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12663410

Comment: Ok going after those who made such files I could understand, but going after each individual who had nothing to do at all with the development, and are just users? Come on!

Looks like sony are going to ban alot of PSN accounts over this...

Quote:
Sony has said it is now able to remotely identify users who are running hacked PlayStation 3 consoles and that it will ban persistent offenders from using its online services.
For the consoles they can't identify... they will probably just match the ip address' of people who downloaded the "jailbreak" files, to those which have connected to the Playstation Network around the same time period, followed by a PSN banhammer?

I'm guessing thats the one reason they want Geo's server logs. Scare Tactics.

I don't care about the PSN, I refused to agree to the changed EULA, so they can't touch me. Mostly they want the IPs because there exist numerous workarounds to banning via firmware version.
