Opera to Sell Browser to a Chinese Business Group.

....A $1.24 billion agreed takeover of Norwegian online browser and advertising company Opera Software by a Chinese consortium of internet firms has failed, Opera said on Monday, after warning last week the deal had yet to win regulatory approval.

As an alternative, the consortium, which includes search and security business Qihoo 360 Technology and Beijing Kunlun Tech, a distributor of online and mobile games, will take over certain parts of Opera’s consumer business for $600 million, Opera said in a statement.......

Just kidding. Based on the responses so far I assumed this was a kind of game. ;)

I have only tried Opera once or twice, and that was after it converted to the Chromium engine. I've heard a lot of praise for the original Opera. FYI, there is a Qt-based project for an original-opera-like browser called otter. I used it for a spell but found it not as good or stable as qupzilla, but keep in mind it is still not at version 1.0 yet, so it might be worth keeping an eye on if you liked the original Opera.

Let's not forget that Ruarí Ødegaard (skilled and helpful Slackware user), after having worked @ Opera is now QA Engineer @ Vivaldi. So, why not try Vivaldi? To install it you can use this script from Ruarí.

PS pic of Vivaldi attached. There is also a SlackBuild.

I stopped using Opera when I saw the direction they were headed in with whatever Opera version for Windows they released after their management shakeup. They removed many of the features I liked most and dumbed down user configuration options drastically.

Before that, I had quite happily used Opera since v. 3, the first version offered to the public.

Vivaldi so far looks good, but I've had problems with it segfaulting on Slackware.

The beginning of the death of Opera was when they switched from Presto to Blink IMO.
