Microsoft using Linux!

In an article about Skype security, one line caught my eye. It mentions "some 10,000 Linux machines hosted by Microsoft." Full article at arstechnica.com.

They have done for years and have been accused of hypocrisy for it. MS has never been afraid of using FOSS in Windows, the TCP/IP stack in Win3.11 gave credit to BSD.

ms bought skype so it will be awhile before they transfer all those linux servers with the programs they host into ms-iis or whatever.

they bought hotmail decades ago and before they shut it down (to merge with outlook) it was running on linux.

IIRC, Hotmail ran on some variation of BSD, possibly FreeBSD. Mickeysoft immediately tried to run it with their operating system, but it was so unstable (unreliable), they went back to BSD and used it for a few years until their own software improved.
