It only looks/feels like a Mac. Apple doesn't allow to run Mac software on any other platform :(

Yes, the basic requirement of Mac4Lin is a GTK based DE. So GNOME is all that is required. It'll run on Fedora 8 with GNOME. However, the installation procedure may differ. If you get stuck while installing then you may seek the help of some Fedora user (in case the procedure is different in Fedora).

hi, are you planning to port mac4lin to KDE 4.1? if yes, will it be ready by the time KDE 4.1 is released? thanks btw, your project is really cool. it's one of the reasons why i keep holding on to linux...

infra_red_dude 05-04-2008 01:03 AM

Hi adred,

Yes, I wish to work on KDE but I'm totally a n00b at KDE theming. For the same reason I've invited KDE guys to help me with it but as yet no response from anybody :(

adred 05-04-2008 05:39 AM

infra red dude,

have you updated your documentation for hardy heron? AWN part, i think, is not correct. i tried to replace gutsy with hardy in the links that are to be added in the sources.list and type wget http://download.tuxfamily.org/syzygy42/reacocard.asc in the terminal but tuxfamily.org didn't reply. because of this i can't continue installing AWN...

PS dont know if this is the right place to post this...

infra_red_dude 05-04-2008 11:08 PM

I haf not come out with a new version so hafn't yet updated the docs. Use this link to install AWN in Hardy: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Insta...on-82611.shtml

if that's the case, i think you should stick to gnome. i love gnome coz of its simplicity..:)

thanks for the link. i have found out that AWN is not yet stable and it decreases usability, IMO.

hi,

where exactly is the menu bar icon located? i cd'ed to /usr/share/icons/ but i didn't find a mac4lin folder. the icon name is start-here.svg right? but i didn't find any icon that resembles the default black ubuntu logo of mac4lin in any of the folders located in the icons folder. can you please help me trace the right one?

adred 05-10-2008 09:07 AM

Mac4Lin is back!

This is the version 1.0 Release Candidate. Some components are still under development. Currently the shell script is not able to set the GDM theme, cursor theme, sounds, emerald theme. They need to be manually set.

Also components like Firefox3, Thunderbird theme, awn theme/plugins etc. are still under development. The Mozilla themes may not be stable. Hence use the non-core components of Mac4Lin at your own risk. Documentation is still in the pipeline. I decided to release the RC anyway so that patrons can start using it and update to the stable version when development is complete.

Whats new: Mac4Lin v1.0 RC - 9th September, 2008

New! Automated Installer in the form of a shell script
New GDM theme
Supports the newest version of GNOME and Xfce
New Mozilla themes specifically built for Mac4Lin
Adium style AWN status icons for Pidgin
Mac style scrollbars, menus
Other tweaks in GTK theme
Adium sounds for Pidgin
New usplash

Keeping up the tradition I'm including the download stats. SF.net alone has served about 10.4TB as on today! I'm also happy to announce that Mac4Lin was one of the winners of FOSS Awards 2008.

Instructions:

Download the Mac4Lin_v1.0_RC.tar.gz archive to any folder. Extract the archive and run Mac4Lin_Install_v1.0_RC.sh file.

any news about the port to KDE 4.1?

any screenies?

infra_red_dude 09-12-2008 11:04 PM

1) No, the project has not been ported to KDE. Unfortunately there was ZERO response from the KDE community when I asked for help as I'm not a KDE guy.

2) Yep yep.. screenies would be up soon :)

A lot of people have been asking me how to use subversion. I've blogged about using subversion so that more people can pull down the Mac4Lin v1.0 RC2 file and here. Head here: http://phoenix-ani.blogspot.com/2009...d-install.html

Hope thats helpful :)

Mac4Lin SVN was down for sometime. I've restructured the whole package and updated some files. Kindly sync your copy again :)
