I guess a happy belated birthday is in order. Tons of frustration has brought me here, but most times I've left informed and stress free.

Here's to another eight years!

Happy Birthday LQ! It's funny that I've browsed the threads looking for answers and when I finally decide to post an issue that I'm having, I seem to find the solution on my own. I can say that LQ must somehow help me think better! Keep up the great work. Open Source rules!

I think that is a common experience. It probably comes from thinking the problem through in a more concrete way. (i.e., asking yourself "exactly how am I going to word this in my post ?") I saw something similar many times when I was in graduate school (back when an "upgrade" meant moving from a slide rule to a calculator. )

It was common to ask another student to help you figure out something that was stumping you. And quite often, in the middle of your explaining what the problem was, the light bulb would go on in your head and you would see the solution w/o the other person having said anything thing. I saw this both ways. Both when I was seeking help as well as when somebody would come to me for help. Something just happened when you were explaining it to somebody else.

I'm here primarily because my friend George Alexandar referred me to LQ. He tells me that LQ is the best thing that happened to him.

The sort of good will and brand equity you are establishing just by word-of-mouth is in itself is an achievement beyond compare ...

All the best LQ. Happy B'day!!!

Happy 8th

Hey,

Happy 8th anniversary. This has been a great resource. I'm surprised Al Gore didn't claim credit for starting it. He might have become president if he had done that. <evil grin>

I achieved "critical mass" with Linux (dumped Windows and OS/2) before there was LQ. Some parts of that were gruesome. Finding information required wading through flame wars and ignoring insults from some quarters to any newbie. I'm not a "programmer" by nature... closer to what is called a "power user" (and not quite that, either) so I need lots of support resources. When I noticed LQ I jumped right on. Just the tone of the whole population here is great.

I don't have any useful suggestions beyond one or two I have already seen posted. Sometimes I have to dig a little to find what I want but that doesn't mean the information is hard to find. I just have some independent, foolish ideas about where to start looking. Just keep the system going.

When I started reading about a random drawing I was thinking about sending in my bank account numbers for direct deposit... oh well... <wink>

Talking

I know I'm late... but

Happy Belated!

I just finally balled up enough to just register on the site. Secretly, I've actually been using this site for the past 2-3 years to help me troubleshoot my own Linux issues.

8 years. That's actually amazing given the fickle nature of the web.

Congrats, guys

Here's to 8 more!

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaappy B'day to you LQ.

I've just been here for the last 10 odd days, and I'm already patting myself on my back for taking the decision to join LQ.

I think a biiiiiiiiiiiiiig vote of thanks to Jeremy is in order - for conceptualizing and bringing LQ to life!
