LinuxQuestions.org Turns Twelve

I'm extremely proud to announce that exactly 12 years ago today I made my very first post at LQ, which served to introduce it to the web. As I've stated numerous times, since then LQ has exceeded my expectation in every way. 4,692,083 posts and nearly a half million members do not even begin to tell the story. The community and mod team that has grown here at LQ is truly amazing and something that I'm very proud to be a part of. I'd like to once again thank each and every LQ member for their participation, dedication and feedback. Without you guys, LQ quite simply wouldn't exist.

To say that feedback has been absolutely critical to our success is an understatement. With that in mind, I'd like to use this thread to collect as much feedback as possible about LQ. What are we doing well and where can we improve? What new features or sections would you like to see? What should we be doing differently? When giving your feedback, please remember that LQ will be updated to the next generation code platform in the very near future. To get a peek at what that platform will be like, please visit AndroidQuestions.org (as previously stated, the LQ color scheme will not be changing). Feedback on that site is very much welcome as well.

As part of our 12 year anniversary, we'll also be giving away some LQ Merchandise and a gratis pass for OSCON 2012. We'll also be randomly selecting posts from this thread and upgrading that member to "Contributing Member" status for one year. Stay tuned.

Wow, twelve years. Happy birthday, LQ, and thanks for your great work, Jeremy.

Regarding feedback, actually at this time there is only one little thing I would appreciate to be able to do: make a search only in my subscribed threads. Sometimes I see a new thread where I think "Wait, I have seen an answer to that in one of the threads I replied to."
Being able to limit the search to those threads would make it much easier to find this posts.

Awesome and thanks to everyone who makes LQ the go to resource for solving your linux challenges.

Well done Jeremy. This has been _the_ website I stick on for hours together.
Thanks a lot for site :)

Kind of fitting too. I ask 12 year old kids for answers. They seem to know most of them. They have all day to look this stuff up. :)

I do have to say that there has been very few instances where a fight broke out. In almost all posts the replies are fair and friendly. Can't everyone be from Texas can they? I'd say this is one of the most friendly sites I have even visited. I said this earlier too. You never know when a quiet member offers a knockout answer. Really some smart people lurk here.

Happy 12th LQ! This site and all it's members have proven to be a fantastic resource over the years. I hope I've made a small contribution to the wealth of knowledge and experience to be found here.

Congratulations on 12 years. You have provided an excellent service to the community.
I have always enjoyed coming to linuxquestions when in need.

Woo-Hoo!

Thanks for all the help over the years.

Let's all sing

Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear LQ
Happy birthday to you.
(Jeremy blows out the candles)

Hey Jeremy, let us know how the cake tastes.:)

As a fairly new member here, I must say, I've never ask a question that was not answered intelligently. You guys here sure knows your Linux and I hope to learn so much more from you.

I agree with TobiSGD and must say it sure would be nice if multi-quoting in a reply was implemented. A 'View all Threads for Today' in the Quick Links would also be nice.

Thanks for all I've learned here and let's go for 12 more years.

Yeah, whenever I'm stuck, a quick search on LQ usually points me to some great information. Forget 12 more years, lets keep LQ up as long as humanly possible :)

Also, I take back what I said about the boxy layout, it's an aquired taste XD Anyway, Happy Birthday LQ! You'll always have a spot in my bookmarks folder and a command in my DWM config.h

Even though this is my first post here and I only recently became a member, LQo has helped me countless times in previous 4-5 years.

Thanks and congratulations! :)

I'm also a new member and have used LQ numerous times for information. Thank you for all the great information and happy 12th anniversary.

Regarding feedback: I love the tutorials; I've learned a lot from them.

One useful change -- more for the members than the administrators -- would be to develop the LQ WIKI. Instead of answering a frequently asked question directly in the thread, write the answer in the WIKI and answer the thread with a link to it.

All together now:
Happy Birthday, LQ!
Happy Birthday, LQ!
You'll soon be a teenager,
Happy Birthday, LQ!!!

doublejoon 06-26-2012 06:51 AM

Happy B-day LQ
LQ has helped me go from total Linux newb to being a Senior Linux System Administrator

Thanks LQ and everyone in it's community!!!
