Hello jeremy, thanks for this forum! I am a totally new to Linux, but I signed up to see what I could learn from my "elders"
Today I'm on to search the forums for anybody that has booted Linux from a usb (to see if they were as chicken as me at first and to see if they have any tips) I like to learn from OPM (other people's mistakes), it keeps me from making too many of my own - I hope Thank you again! :hattip: |
So tell us Jeremy, what made you decide to start this forum?
|
I started LinuxQuestions.org as a way to give something back to the Linux community. I had been using Linux for a while at that point and wanted to offer help to existing and potential Linux users. In the 14 years since then, LQ has grown far beyond what I ever imagined it would.

LinuxQuestions.org Turns Fourteen
Better late than never?
First of all, I would like to congratulate Jeremy and his crew, for his/their achievement/s. Wonderful! BTW - my 2nd-last desktop wallpaper with Windows 7 featured a bemused Tux sitting behind a broken window, reflecting that Windows is busted. I burnt my bridges some weeks ago, nuking Windows in favour of a totally Linux environment (Trusty Tahr), and have not looked back! However you asked for feedback: "Introduction to Linux - A hands-on guide". I can get no further in the process without revealing my phone number, and I don't do that. I realise it may be a valued sponsor to your site, so I am not complaining. I will use the expertise of site members to answer my questions. Good luck, and best wishes with the next 14 years! Motivated and helpful
Thank you Jeremy for establishing this forum and helping to make it possible for people like me to set up a networked home media server/clients DIY on a very low budget using castoff and home-built machines while learning more about the hardware and software involved.
I received cheerful advice here (bootinfo script) that helped me to troubleshoot a difficult GPT booting problem on old hardware. Canonical is distribution-specific yet the solution came from here not there. Maybe a distribution-independent forum is actually better. I also learned that I can upgrade the graphics adapters in the clients to get the latest HD codecs in hardware rather than buying higher-powered machines capable of software decoding (I was previously unaware that the latest hardware codecs are now supported in Linux). So I also got help with hardware selection on a completely different topic at the same time. All around Linux is the best solution for me and linuxquestions is part of the reason why. Thanks again Jeremy! <3 XOXO |

If it wasn't for LQ, I would never have discovered the awesomeness of Slackware and the community around it.
That's the single best reason for me to stick to LQ if anything else. Congratulations Jeremy-the root and all the mods, members and aliens. May the force be with you! Regards. |
