I'm extremely excited to announce that exactly 11 years ago today I made my very first post at LQ, which served to introduce it to the web. As I've stated numerous times, since then LQ has exceeded my expectation in every way. 4,382,316 posts and 457,176 registered members does not even begin to tell the story. The community and mod team that has grown here at LQ is truly amazing and something that I'm very proud to be a part of. I'd like to once again thank each and every LQ member for their participation, dedication and feedback. Without you guys, LQ quite simply wouldn't exist.

To say that feedback has been absolutely critical to our success is an understatement. With that in mind, I'd like to use this thread to collect as much feedback as possible about LQ. What are we doing well and where can we improve? What new features or sections would you like to see? What should we be doing differently? Let us know your thoughts and as a thank you, I'll be randomly selecting 11 suggestions from this thread and will upgrade the posting member to a contributing member for one year. Keep in mind that the new launched AndroidQuestions.org runs the next generation platform that will power LQ at some point (we don't have an ETA for that yet).

As part of our 11 year anniversary, we'll also be giving away some LQ Merchandise and a gratis pass for OSCON 2011. Stay tuned.

Great Job!!! I hope that you can add a one to the front of the eleven for this website. I would like to thank you for providing the forum, land, place to meet. Many times I have questions and they are always greeted with answers as a result of this website. A simple question as to what version of Linux one has on his machine is one good example. For a person whom has used DOS, Windows all of their life, the question of what version are you running is not a "dumb" question. I view any question as a root looking for more knowledge and I thank you for providing the space for such exchange.

Yes I will admit that the reason that I showed up here tonight was to see what version of Ubuntu I was running on a virtual machine, but could not come up with the right command to type in the term window. With so many distributions of Linux OS'es and mixing AIX into the mix, I am easily frustrated and mislead by my own brain. Yet a DOS command that I used to use long ago... I can type and get results.

At any rate; Thanks for your dedication and thoughtfulness to LinuxQuestions.org I am sure that it has helped many such as myself.

Suggestion:
The HCL listing is a bit clunky to search and browse. I don't have a firm idea of how to fix it, but maybe the LQ community can start a discussion? Maybe some sort of relational database backend with better search forms. Newegg.com has a very usefull method of browsing/drilling down to hardware, for example.

I agree, and it works slowly. I mean I submitted stuff and it took a while to show up. It should also be made more popular somehow, because it is important. I have an idea, maybe it should be made a wiki instead ? That has search capability and everything.

Thanks for the feedback. The HCL will be receiving a major upgrade as part of the next code update (although I'd say the concept of a Linux HCL is probably becoming less important as time goes on - the number of hardware devices that I come into contact with that don't work in Linux seem to be dwindling).

That may be true, but some hardware just doesn't work well under Linux, and it might be useful to know this before you buy it. I mean I just bought some Asus netbooks, but they're not listed on there. I have no clue if they will even run Linux ... I decided to roll the dice.
