Post How long will Flash survive?

"A few years ago, it was difficult to browse the web without coming across a site using Flash."

Ironically I need flash just to see this. My opinion, it can't die soon enough! HTML5 FTW!

The only good thing I have to say about it is that it was (is, sort-of) cross-platform and could be used instead of Silverlight. Flash is trash though and the sooner it is confined to the history books the better.

Funny ... I simply do not agree with folks who "trash Flash" in this way:

(1) Microsoft Silverlight is really a no-different technology. It's also a plug-in.

(2) HTML5 is nothing more than a graphics API, driven by open-source-code JavaScript scripts which can be dynamically modified on-the-fly by content that could come from anywhere

So, even though people happily "diss" Flash for being "insecure," the fact of the matter is that HTML5+JavaScript is and always has been far more open to exploit.

I foresee the day when more-and-more of the programming that drives the Web is not delivered to the client in source-code form, whether-or-not it is "minified." It will be p-code that is digitally signed and possibly encrypted.
