1.85% of Steam users run Linux

Quote:

Valve has released Steam Hardware & Software Survey for December 2013.

According to the Survey 1.85% Steam users run Linux.

The most popular Linux distribution for running Steam client is the latest Ubuntu 13.10 64bit with 0.41% of share, while the next most popular Linux distribution is Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS 64 bit with 0.19% share.

Valve is releasing monthly snapshot of hardware and software it receives from users who agree to share their data anonymously.
It will be interesting to follow Linux share as more and more games get ported / released for Linux.

Isn't that almost double the percentage that it used to be?

Those numbers are anything but reliable, since they are created by handing out surveys to random people. I have never seen such a survey and many people have gotten the survey always when they run Steam under Windows, but never when they started it under Linux.
So it just might be that this month it was the other way around, possibly Linux users had more luck this time, but still dual boot systems are not taken into account and I also can't see Wine on that list.

It had been hovering in the low 1% range if I remember correctly.
