Zorin resolution size cannot change panel is missing.

So I was having a problem even loading my distro. It turns out I accidently installed wrong drivers (nvidia while I have an Itel chip set) So everytime NVIDIA tried to load it's module and screen setting, it forced a check (fsck) because it couldn't find anything for NVIDIA. I booted in recovery, Changed configuration. # commented out the NVIDIA section, and changed NVIDIA to intel in the display section. Which seems to have worked because it now loads without me having to go into recovery mode, however my screen is abnormaly large and I can only see the center of the desktop. Leaving me unable to reach the panel and change the settings. A google search led me to believe that typing:
Code:
xrandr
-and-
xrandr -s {widthXheight}
Would be helpful, However when I do xrandr I get:

Code:
cannot open display
Is there a way for me to edit that and any ideas on why it may be doing that? Thanks in advance.

I read in your other thread that you have updated the underlying Ubuntu to 11.04. This is a major change, and I do not not if the Zorin 4 specific packages are compatible with the new Ubuntu. I would recommend to back up your data and install the newly released Zorin 5.

Thanks for the reply,
I've had 11.04 for a bit and there weren't any real issues until the nvidia mix up. Although I would like the new zorin5 just to stay current, I have no dvd's or cd's to backup on or get the .iso for 5, So for the moment I am stuck with whatever I can get to work

I have no idea what happened, I started Zorin, open a terminal and typed
Code:
$ gnome-panel
... It opened a HUGE panel because of the rez ... But I was able to change it back to it's orginal 1024 x (whatever goes here). Marking as solve.
