Red face Zip 250 parallel drive

I have Suse Linux 7.1 Pro.Is there an install package for my Iomega 250 Zip parallel drive within one of my Suse CDs? I think I may have to use another kernel to make it work from what I read.Do I need a Linux for dummies book?

Hi !!!

The package you are looking for is ziptool and its already installed as default.
But I recomend you to download the package jaZip, its based on ziptool and has a nice GUI (and support for 250zip drives) like Iomega ware tools.
Here's the address:

http://www.scripps.edu/~jsmith/jazip/

It works fine for me.

huh?

Ok folks, this is confusing the heck out of me. I downloaded the program mentioned above, as well as the 3 versions of glibc linked to from that same site. Now what? I tried compiling using make install and this is what the shell gave me:

suseorbust:~/KDesktop/zip/xform3/xforms/FORMS # make install
make: *** No rule to make target `install'. Stop.
suseorbust:~/KDesktop/zip/xform3/xforms/FORMS #

NOTE: I'm running SuSE Linux 7.3 Professional
kernel 2.4.10SMP (I have two processors) and my zip drive is an external parralel port zip 250. Can anyone help?

Zip 250mB drive mount

I tried the suggestion but could not get the Xforms libraries (URL not available) so I carried on and ran into trouble with make install. I got the error message jazip does not exist (in the jazip-0.34 folder there is only jazip.c)
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Dave

Hi there !!!

Well unfortunately the server is down or something as I cannot get the sources of xforms also...

The option you have is to search your distribution packages for xforms binaries, you will need to download and/or install xforms and xforms-devel packages in order to compile jazip. Try to search
rpmfind.net for rpms for your distro also.

Apparently SuSE 9.3 doesn't include xforms anymore so I can't compile jazip on my laptop.

About the "glibc" libraries, don't download and use the ones mentioned there, use your distribution's instead, just make sure you have the "devel" packages and you should be fine.

Hope this helps ya.

jazip

Thanks Azael
I left the xforms alone and installed the s/ware that I downloaded.
I got the jazip to recognise the Zip drive but I couldn't get any files listed as the user. Through su I could list the files. I went into 'configure the computer' and saw the zip drive listed so I set it up by removing superuser and selecting user and then selected search for zip drives in the Options tab and I'm now working fine.
Thanks for your suggestions. I don't know if they're related to SUSE9.1 but I'm using Mandrake 10.2.
Regards,
Dave.
