zeroconf:/ Not working :(

Hello everybody i've just installed linux slackware v.12 and i connected my laptop on a working router. I opened firefox but i didn't have an internet connection! Then I went through System Menu -> Remote Places (system:/remote) and i clicked on Network Service. And all i've got is just an error message "KDE has been built without Zeroconf support." Notice that the router is both with wires and wireless also. I tried both with the cable and with out and i got the same results. Also this laptop is going to be used in a wireless network! Please be advise what can i do...?

Thanks in advance,
Cyhaxor

Hi Cyhaxor, Welcome to lq. If you're going to run Slack I'd suggest getting familiar with the terminal or CLI. During the install did you set up your network? What steps did you take? Is the nic of the machine plugged in or are you trying to get wireless working? Could you please post the output from the following commands via a terminal (Konsole).

/sbin/lspci -v

/sbin/lsmod

/sbin/ifconfig -a

/sbin/route

Good luck. ;-)

Cyhaxor 08-25-2007 08:24 PM

Thanx for the reply! Hm duaring the installation i didn't setup any special mode about the networking as i remember at least! The router is not here in my home but tommorow i'll be to the router so i will test the command and give you the output! Also while i was trying to connect to the internet i tried out both of ways. With ethernet cable and wireless but i got the same results! Thanks anyway and tomorrow i'll give you the outputs of commands!

Peacedog 08-26-2007 05:47 PM

If you completed the installation it should have taken you through a network configuration. If not, we can still get it up and running, it'll just take a little more legwork. ;-) Looking forward to it.
Good luck. ;-)

LOL Now to save in a USB HDD the output to transfer it to windows where I have an internet access I need to know how to make linux mount my USB HDD and give me the permission to save the output log file on it! Linux understood that I connect a USB HHD and got the Name Label of the disk but it can mount it and release me to access the disk! How can I make linux mount my USB HDD?

-----------------------

Ok I have done this through this command

Code:

mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbdriver
Anyway tonight I'll post you the ouput log about the internet! :)

Cyhaxor 08-27-2007 02:34 PM

Without the cable connected. Also I i use Linksys wireless ROUTER WRT54GS in combination with laptop default wi-fi system. Laptop: Gateway MX6453.

Output:

Looks like you just need to run your network configuration. You may also need to get support going for your wireless configuration. I believe you will find everything you need in these links.

http://www.slackware.com/config/network.php

http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/...r_Slackware_11

http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/...NDISWRAPPER_11

That should get you going.
Good luck. ;-)

Cyhaxor 08-27-2007 06:04 PM

ok man thank you very much! I'll try out everything tomorrow and I'll let you and the rest of users to know what I have done to configure my network! May be useful in the future for other users or for me again ;p Thanks anyway. Next post in a few days with my good news I hope! By the way I got the same output with the cable connected! But firstly i want to fix the wireless connection because this laptop is going to be use in a University campus where the connection is wireless!

Peacedog 08-27-2007 06:38 PM

Good luck with it, we'll all be here should you have any troubles. I feel certain the information you need is contained in the posts above for a wired or wireless connection. They're written for different versions of Slack but, that shouldn't make much difference.
Good luck. ;-)
