zen & art of rm -rf = (whoops) / hidden home

hi all,
(rh9 , 2.4.20-18.9 , only a few weeks installed )
a couple days ago I did something stupid.
I forcfully removed all the .*
with:
$rm -rf .*
in /home/dumbass directory. (only one user if that matters)
yes I should know better, it had something to do with nethack, and I was feeling bold and impatient
...what is done is done,
but what did I do?

wasn't root, but I seem to have really done a number on the desktop... after a few minutes of panic, and a restart, the problems seem to be mostly cosmetic-- but a few things are acting a little weird...

so here it is:

1. what kind of stuff (important or not) was there before I zapped it? and how do I, or do I need to, get it back?

thanks, & happy I.D. to us Americans.

You'll probably have some problems with the various user-specific config files (.bashrc, .Xauthority, etc). You might just want to wack that user (look at the man page for options to recursively remove the users directory tree) and then re-add it with the same name. That way linux will rebuild all the default user profiles for you.

PS: how'd you like dem Zambelli's dis yer.
