yum update error on client: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml)

Hi Guys..

I just installed RHEL5.2 on 2 VMware players in same network as master and client. I can ping both servers & Client from each other and vsftpd service is running on both machines.

iptables , ip6tables stopped already.

ON SERVER (server1 - 192.168.159.128) :

a. Configured yum repo on server and can install packages also using yum on server m/c.

[root@server1 repodata]# cat /etc/yum.repos.d/rpm.repo
[Server]
name=server repository
baseurl=file:///var/ftp/pub/Server/
gpgcheck=0

[VT]
name=VT repository
baseurl=file:///var/ftp/pub/VT/
gpgcheck=0

[Updates]
name= repository
baseurl=file:///var/ftp/pub/
gpgcheck=0

********
b>. Moved "comps-rhel5-xxx-core.xml" file from /var/ftp/pub/{Server,VT}/repodata to /var/ftp/pub/{Server,VT}.

c>. Deleted "repodata" directory from
/var/ftp/pub/Server/ and /var/ftp/pub/VT.

d>. createrepo -g comps-rhel5-server-core.xml /var/ftp/pub/Server/
2223/2223
createrepo -g comps-rhel5-vt.xml /var/ftp/pub/VT/
32/32

ON CLIENT Server (Server2):

1. # cat /etc/yum.repos.d/server2.repo
[Server]
name=server repository
baseurl=ftp://192.168.159.128/var/ftp/pub/Server/
gpgcheck=0

[VT]
name=VT repository
baseurl=ftp://192.168.159.128/var/ftp/pub/VT/
gpgcheck=0

[Updates]
name= repository
baseurl=ftp://192.168.159.128/var/ftp/pub/
gpgcheck=0

**
2. yum clean all
3. # yum update
Loading "security" plugin
Loading "rhnplugin" plugin
This system is not registered with RHN.
RHN support will be disabled.
ftp://192.168.159.128/var/ftp/pub/Se...ta/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: [Errno ftp error] 550 Failed to change directory.
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: Server. Please verify its path and try again
[root@server2]#

Can you please help me resolve this isssue or help to configure yum correctly on client ?

Thanks

and RHEL5.2 is out of date and not had any security updates to it in a very very long time

buy a license and UPDATE IT !!!!!
also if this is a new install and you NEED the 5 series and not the current RHEL6.1
upgrade 5.2 to 5.6

Problem with your baseurl path

Hello,

You have assigned path like following :-

baseurl=ftp://192.168.159.128/var/ftp/pub/Server/
baseurl=ftp://192.168.159.128/var/ftp/pub/VT/
baseurl=ftp://192.168.159.128/var/ftp/pub/

it should be like following :-

baseurl=ftp://192.168.159.128/pub/Server/
baseurl=ftp://192.168.159.128/pub/VT/
baseurl=ftp://192.168.159.128/pub/

Hope this helps you.
