YUM is slowly killing me...

I'm running FC6 and absolutely cannot get yum to run - I continually get the "Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: updates" whenever I try to run the command:

Code:

#yum update
I've search thru these forums and I have the baseurl in the /etc/yum.repos/d/fedora-core.repo file and the yum.conf file hasn't been touched at all.

I followed some other instructions on this Web site for removing the /var/lib/rpm/__db files, running rpm -vv --rebuilddb. That command appeared to complete successfully, so I ran the yum clean all and that also appeared to work.

I finally tried the yum update again and still getting the baseurl failure. I'm at my wits end...any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Consider running an up to date distro

As far as I'm aware, Fedora Core 6 hasn't been supported for some times, hence the error about not being able to find a valid repo. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fedora_...ersion_history for more info on the supported versions of Fedora.

You might find it easier/safer to upgrade to a more current version, depending on your hardware situation.

Fedora versions only last a relatively short time, you might want to try Centos if you want a longer lasting system.
