yum: command not found on RHEL5.5

I did a
yum install libxml2
then later had to do a
yum remove libxml2

on my rhel5.5 machine. During the course I answered 'y' to one of the questions asked, which may have lead to the problem I'm about to describe - I don't know because I can't reproduce the problem at the moment.

After doing the 'yum remove libxml2', which seemed to complete successfully, I tried to do a 'yum search <some other package>' and a 'yum install <some other package>' - both commands failed. The error message I get is

[root@server etc]# yum search libxml2
bash: yum: command not found
[root@server etc]# which yum
/usr/bin/which: no yum in (/usr/kerberos/sbin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/bin:/bin)

I'm afraid during the 'yum remove libxml2' I must have removed some essential system libraries and applications, including yum.

Any suggestions re: the best way to fix this problem? Thank you.

you can compile the yum from the source and use it to reinstall the other missing packages.

well you will be VERY VERY careful about using the "yes" answer to removing 100 rpm dependencies
some of them were "glibc (libc.so) , rpmlib, libz "

reinstall the OS
will take about 30 min. then restore the user data from your nightly back up that you did??? make ???

fixing using a second computer to dl and burn to cd a few rpms at a time and installing them in a non working RHEL ( if you can - you might not be able to ) will take a few DAYS
