yum cache error

I'm new to Linux and there's probably a simple solution to this. I get a weird cache error when I try to run the check -update in yum

[johann@localhost ~]$ yum check-update
Setting up repositories
Reading repository metadata in from local files
Error: Caching enabled but no local cache of //var/cache/yum/updates-released/primary.xml.gz from updates-released

Anyways, any help would be appreciated.

haha, thanks to all those that looked at this, the default is to not let user's have access to the root directory and so all I had to do was login as admin.
