Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds...
i switched on the laptop today and to my surprise i get "failed to load session"ubuntu"" then after pressing ok i get
"Your session only lasted less than 10 seconds. If you have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there is some installation problem or that you may be out of disk space. Try logging in with one of the failsafe sessions to see if you can fix this problem." This is the content of ~/.xsessions file: Code:
etc/mdm/xsession:beginning session setup.. Help |
i was able to login by changing the session to MATE istead of 'last session'. i still believe that there is a legit fix for this. because it SHOULD login as 'last session', all i want to know is what went wrong..

Some critical piece of the session failed to load. You only seem to mention one occurrence. Is it occurring repeatedly? Any errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log? I don't know if and where MDM keeps a log, you could check that too.
Any updates installed? If so maybe something was changed that was a one time event. |

I don't see anything in the X log. check in /var/log for something related to "mdm". I don't use mint, but that's where such a log would be. Has it happened again? By chance, is the drive full? I have seen mention of "rm -f .Xauth* .ICE*" from a console (Press Ctrl+Alt+2 to get one) having fixed such a problem, apparently a problem with one of those files. They will be recreated next time the X server starts. |

What went wrong, any number of things but we will never know because you only posted a small section of a file. If I were you I would install something like LightDM instead of MDM. |
