Yet more alcatel speedtouch blues!!

I have just installed mandrake 9.1 on my pc, everything went smoothly until I tried to install my alcatel speedtouch usb modem. After going through all the steps in the wizard I was told that I needed an ngmt.o file installed in the /usr/share/speedtouch dir. I have now done this after much freaking hassle but to no avail, my internet connection is still not working. After reading posts on here I typed mcc into a console and then ran the wizard, still no internet connection but this time I have these apparently random symbols which must mean something to someone. Please help

Did you select the connection to start at boot ? if not you could try that or alternatively as root at a terminal type

modem_run -m -f /path/to/mgmt.o

Then I believe from memory

cd /usr/share/speedtouch/
sh speedtouch.sh start

That looks very like the error that I used to get with my speedtouch except it would say *****/speedtouch/speedtouch.sh line 150 ?something that I don't recall? command not found.

By now you would have thought that I'd found the solution - I did, two, in fact. The first being to re-install mandrake (there was something in one of the cooker forums, but it didn't work). The second one was a little more permanent - I went here and bought a SAR110 and a PCI network card.

If, like me, you dual boot, then it's sooooo much better, no delay booting between OS's, not stupid inexplicable error or shit like that.

Sorry if you skint, and that counts that option out! but I'm really glad that I did it, it's made life so much easier - I've actually still got the speedtouch, it sits on top of a shelf on a pile of old Linuxformat mags - as a paper weight.
