Yet another "Can't Play DVD's" thread ...

Alright ... lemme give you my setup:
Edubuntu 7.04
Medibuntu repo installed
totem-xine, libdvdcss2, libdvdread3 installed.

I still can't play DVDs. Totem tells me "Totem could not play 'dvd:/'" when I attempt to open the DVD.

I found with my Kubuntu installation that I couldn't play DVDs after following all the instrucitons on the community documentation but funnily enough after i set up mp3 playback it worked. Difference being libxine1-ffmpeg although i don't know what you'll need or if this helps. The other problem I had from 6.06 days was I was running the AMD64 version and needed some extra stuff to smooth out the 32-64 problems.

Just some food for thought... mmm food. I'm going to eat lunch.

Now I have. It works, so I guess the codecs are installed. But mplayer seems to want to go directly to the video (chapter 1), skipping the menus. I need to access the DVD menus.

I understand that Totem is simply a front-end to the actual players (xine, mplayer). How do I tell which player it is using?

To my list of codecs, I've added ffmpeg and w32codecs, seemingly no difference.

open synaptic and see if xine is installed and if not then it is prob. using mplayer.

there should be a menu button on mplayer. ( dont have it installed to tell you where. (sorry))
