YAST2 software management, where are the downloaded rpms?
 

Hi,

I would be grateful if anyone could help me with the following;
I am using opensuse 10.3 yast2 software management and have no idea where the downloaded rpm files are stored. For example nvidia drivers, After patching the kernel I have to reinstall the nvidia drivers which were installed previously using yast2.

The only way I can think of doing this is to remove this package from yast2 and then reinstall. But why do I need to keep downloading this file, each time I update the kernel.

Had I download the rpm manually I would still have the original rpm. Is this a disadvantage of using yast2 ?

If yast2 doesn't store the rpm can it be configured to ?

I have found no help in the yast2 documentation.

p.s
Currently I am downloading the rpm manually then installing using yast2. But I hope this isn't the solution.

If you install the Nvidia driver according suse recommendation if you get a kernel up date from suse it is not necessary
to down load the drive again After up dating at suse all the package are deleted

Are you confirming that all yast2 packages once installed or updated are deleted and will require downloading again if required ?

If so I guess dial ups are really dead. I was using a dial-up recently and having to download 50mb kernel patch. Not being able to store that download for safe keeping is unsettling. Of course I can do it manually, but I guess I'm trying to understand yast2 features/limitations.

I saw something about yast2 and libzypper being related and thought there might be away to configure libzypper not to delete the files, at least not right-away.

AS fare as I know yes.In suse 9.3 there was a option that before downloading you can choice to keep the patches or not
But on this forum more ore less the same question was ask I do not follow the thread so I do not know the answer
