Unhappy YaST (Suse 9.1) will not start anymore

After some experiments with an USB memory stick I have problems with YaST.
When I start YaST(2) (SUSE 9.1) Nothing seems to happen. But when I use the TOP command on another screen I see the command y2base is using all the CPS.
In the folder /var/log/YaST files like y2log & y2log-[1-9] are created with the (repeating) lines :
2004-08-21 21:02:42 <2> linux2(4732) [YCP] clients/menu.ycp:248 Event or widget ID not handled: nil
2004-08-21 21:02:42 <2> linux2(4732) [ui] YUI_bindings.cc(UICallHandler):581 No UI instance available yet!

I also booted from CD and tried the "repair" option. At one of the last phases it says "starting yast" and then the system got a cold reboot.

I am afraid it has to do with the USB settings. I removed the USB devices, and disabled USB in the BIOS. Probably I have to remove them somewhere from the configuration as well, but I have NO idea how to do that without YaST.

Thanks for your help in advance
Peter

One of the links in this post describes disabling USB auto mounting.

Do both the GUI YAST and the ncurses (command line) YAST fail?

Thanks for your reply 2damncommon,
I checked and bookmarked the link you gave me but at this moment it is not really help me.
At this moment I stopped all the USB activities, first want to go back to normal (YaST runninng again).

Yast(2) in the CLI and the GUI gave the same gehaviour (y2base consuming all CPU). When I try to start the online update from the GUI (right under in the taskbar / SuSE Watcher) I see the same (y2base) behaviour.

My main concern now is to bring back YaST to the original state. The 'repair' function is not working properly, possible because it is based on YaST as well. I might have to reinstall YaST using RPM but as a newbie I don't know (yet) exactly how to do that.
Beside a reinstall of YaST might not be the solution because the problems might be caused by a config or library file as well. But I want to try it as a start, just do not know how.

Thanks so far,
Peter

Problem partly solved by SuSe support after I send them my siga report.

They saw an online patch update did not complete and advised me to download ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/upd...0-0.2.i586.rpm &
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/upd...0.2.noarch.rpm

After that I installed it with rpm -Uvh and the looping problem was disapeared. Unfortunally I still have the 'original' problem what I got after using a USB memory stick. When I make a selection in YaST is crashes with the message :
usr/lib/YaST2/bin/y2base: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/YaST2/plugin/libpy2ag_hwprobe.so.2: undefined symbol: hd_busid_to_hwcfg

After that the tty settings are corrupted and I have to reset them with the command : stty sane

If I (or SuSe support) find a quick solution I'll post it here, otherwise I might open a new thread.

Offcourse suggestion are welcome in here as well.
