Look, guys, I'm telling you, if you're running on Mandrake 10.0 then gaim is already there! Just open a konsole and type 'gaim' (without quotes) don't type anything more or less; all letters are lower case! It took me 2 days to find this out. But a friend told me to do this. GAIM loaded automatically. Then I just set up my MSN and Yahoo accounts and I was up and running!

Look guys, I'm telling you that GAIM is already there for you with Mandrake 10.0. All you gotta do is open a konsole and type 'gaim' (without quotes). All letters are lower case. Don't type nothing more and nothing less. Just 'gaim'. Don't even change to root user. It took me 2 days and then the guy that introduced me to Mandrake Linux told me to do this. Now, I'm chatting away with GAIM in mdk 10.0! Trust me....

Yep... Gaim is includig in the package og of mandrake 10 official... but its older version of mandrake... Yahoo server has upgraded... for YM6 version including the ports.

You must upgrade your gaim 0.79 is working on yahoo well that's what I did for kopete... I'm using kopete 0.8.4 from kopete.kde.org

Thanks for all the useful info!
Updated gaim to v0.79.
Still can't setup a Yahoo profile........... hmmmmmn...
There's nothing wrong with my net connection as gaim will setup, connect and run an msn profile for me no problem.

Here's what Yahoo have to say about the connections:
Quote:
Connection Server: csa.yahoo.com
Port: 5050
Edit Server: msg.edit.yahoo.com
Port: 80
HTTP Proxy: http.pager.yahoo.com
Port: 80
All this info tallies with what's set in gaim v0.79 under 'Modify Account' --> 'Show More Options'.
Tried to get Yahoo up and running using different proxy settings - global settings, socks4, socks5 & HTTP, but still no joy.
So, I'm all out of ideas.

Edit: No I'm not... Perhaps the firewall is interfering with the Yahoo settings?
I've got it setup to allow Webserver, DNS, Mail Server and PoP servers at the moment. I can't think that a messenger program would use any other service that's listed in the firewall setup to connect though... Any suggestions?

Pongmaster,
Do you have a registered Yahoo ID? You can only register through Yahoo itself and not on gaim. GAIM allows you to setup an already existing account. Just type in your current Yahoo! username and password. Same with MSN and AOL.

In Mandrake 10.0, just download the RedHat 9 version of Yahoo. It worked for me.

Congrats on getting Mandrake.
For your Kopete problem, I suggest the latest version of gaim. It's a lot easier to use than Kopete, and looks nicer too (IMHO).
The yahoo login problem is to do with Yahoo changing their messenger protocols - older versions of Kopete/gaim etc don't work with it.
gaim - http://gaim.sourceforge.net/
