yahoo messenger


hi

m using redhat9 and every time i install yahoo messenger it installs successfully but when i run the program i get this strange message

[root@kush Softwares]# rpm -i rh9.ymessenger-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm

""""[root@kush Softwares]# ymessenger
""""Segmentation fault


m not able to understand this

plz help

ymessenger actually is not great software. You'll probably have better luck just using Gaim which supports Yahoo.

how can i configure my gaim to chat with my yahoo buddies since i don't have a aim or a gaim account

gaim also handles yahoo accounts for ymessenger....you set it up in the "accounts"

There's no such thing as a gaim account, it supports the multiple services that are available. It supports AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC and many others..

wht should i do now

go to http://gaim.sourceforge.net and get the most recent version
i think its .76 i'd recommmend getting the source and compiling it for your system then extract the file you download and follow the read me

i've downloaded the src file for GAIM and tried to run that but still m getting the same error


[root@kush kush]# rpm -i gaim-0.76-0.src.rpm
error: gaim-0.76-0.src.rpm: V3 DSA signature: BAD, key ID 883c1c14
error: gaim-0.76-0.src.rpm cannot be installed


but i noticed one thing the key id changed this time lol

anyways if someone knows a way out then plz help me

This may not do the trick, but I only use:
rpm -Uvh <program.rpm>

I don't do the source ones this way, so you may need to check the flags for that one. Anyway, the U is for update, which works even if you don't have a previous version. I'm not sure about the vh offhand, but you can check that in
man rpm

I just know that the RedHat documentation told me to always do it that way.

login as root in the command window and run the same command
it should work
i had the same problem .......its working if i run it as root
i don't know the reason
