Yahoo hasn't had a version of Messenger for Linux in years. They stopped supporting Linux with a Linux version of their instant messaging client after version 2.x.
Instead, you might want to take a look at Pidgin. While lacking some of the "whistles and bells" of Yahoo Messenger, it works very well. Additionally, it allows you to connect not only to the Yahoo network to chat with Messenger users, you can also connect with the AOL network, MSN network, ICQ, and a whole host of other instant messaging networks.
As for your multimedia needs, there's little that can beat MPlayer for virtually all of your needs ... video and audio.
Fedora comes with an instant messaging program called Pidgin. When you use Pidgin, you can use MSN Messenger, ICQ, AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, and Jabber, all at the same time.
To start Pidgin, click on the Applications menu, go to "Internet," and choose "Internet Messenger."
How do I play DVDs in Fedora?
A: Easy! You just have to change the configuration of Totem, the Movie Player:
1. Make sure that you're using my yum configuration from the installing software question.
2. Open a Terminal.
3. Become root:
su -
4. Install the software that Totem needs in order to play DVDs correctly:
5. Change Totem's configuration to use the new software we installed:
totem-backend -b xine
And now you can play DVDs! You can find Totem in the "Applications" menu, under "Sound and Video." It's just called "Movie Player." Sometimes it will say that it can't play a DVD, but it will usually work if you close Totem, then insert the DVD into your drive, then wait for a popup to ask you what you want to do, and then click "Open."
For yahoo messenger try gyache. It's the best alternative I found (photo-sharing, enviroments, voicechat, webcam and so on). It's simple: yum -install Gyachi
