Xwindows broken after power faillure

Hi,
Had a recent power failure and it shutdown the computer. Upon reboot, I tried to run startx but I get an error and it says connection reset by peer. I tried running the reconfig for X but that gives nearly the same error and quits out. Tell me there's a way to fix this without reinstalling everything

some errors:
Could not init font path element unix/7100, removing from list!

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

thanks for any help

Try commenting out (put # in the beginning of the line) the line in your /etc/X11/XF86Config file that refers to the font path, and startx again.
